Patient Preparation Instructions

Welcome to our center. Before you arrive for your thermographic examination, certain protocols must be followed in order to ensure that your images reflect accurate information. Please read the following instructions and adhere to them as closely as possible.
  • No prolonged sun exposure (especially sunburn) to the body areas being imaged 5 days prior to the exam.
  • No use of deodorants, lotions, creams, powders, (no facial makeup for full body or upper body scans) the day
           of the exam.
  • No shaving of the areas to be imaged the day of the exam.
  • No treatment (chiropractic, acupuncture, TENS, physical therapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, hot or
cold pack use) or physical stimulation of the areas to be imaged for 24 hours before the exam.
  • No exercise 4 hours prior to the exam.
  • If bathing, it must be no closer than 1 hour before the exam.
  • If you are using pain medications, please avoid taking them for 4 hours prior to the examination. You must
consult with the prescribing physician for his or her consent prior to any change in medication use such as this.
  • Do not smoke or have caffeine any more than 2 hours before exam.
  • Do not use heated seats or AC blowing directly on the body on your way to your exam.
If you are scheduled for a breast thermogram, the same protocol above applies along with no physical stimulation of the breasts for 24 hours before the exam, and if you are nursing please try to nurse as far from 1 hour prior to the exam as possible.

PLEASE NOTE: During the examination you will be disrobed (from the waist up for breast exams, and buttocks exposed for lower body exams) during part of the examination for both imaging and to allow for the surface temperature of the body to equilibrate with the room. A female technician is provided for all our female patients.
We have enclosed a health history form(s) for you to fill out before arriving for your examination. If you have copies of any other test results (i.e. mammograms, blood tests) please bring them with you. If you have any further questions, please contact our office.

Thank you for choosing Thermography Northwest and we look forward to meeting you.
** Please print, fill out, and bring the appropriate questionnaire forms from below to your appointment.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

  • The exam room will be somewhat cool at between 68-72 degrees which is required for the best quality
    thermal images.
  • You will be asked to disrobe during part of the exam for both the imaging and to allow the surface temperature of the body to equilibrate with the room. Disrobing will be waist up for the breast/upper body exams; waist down for lower body exam.
  • We will take between 7-32 images of you using a thermal camera, depending on the exam you have chosen.  There is absolutely no contact between the camera and the patient.

*Note

Thermography Northwest is not a treatment or diagnosing center. While clients may have been imaged at Thermography Northwest with the images analyzed/interpreted by its interpretive service provider, any treatment and/or diagnoses obtained by the client were through his/her health provider(s).Breast thermography offers women information that no other procedure can provide, and usually earlier than other technologies. However, thermography is not a replacement for or alternative to any other breast test or procedure. Breast thermography and other breast screenings are complementary, one test does not replace the other. All thermography reports are meant to identify thermal emissions that suggest potential risk markers only, and do not in any way suggest diagnosis and/or treatment. Studies show that the earliest detection is realized when multiple tests are used together, since every screening method can miss something. This multimodal approach includes choosing a variety of these methods: physical breast exam performed by a health care practitioner, thermography, mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI, and any other test ordered by your doctor.
